| A Month – The grand circuit |
From Hobart, take the Huon Trail on a three-day circuit south, with the choice of a day on Bruny Island. Then, via Hobart, take a two-day trip west to majestic Lakes Pedder and Gordon. On day 6, turn left at Westerway and join the Lyell Highway to the Central Highlands. Spend two days at Lake St Clair, then proceed through superb country to Strahan. Three days at Strahan should include a trips on the Gordon River and the West Coast Wilderness Railway. On day 12, spend a day travelling north via Zeehan along the West Coast via Corinna to Smithton and Stanley, beside the Nut. Three days here are recommended. Take two days proceeding along the Bass Highway through Burnie and Devonport to Launceston. This is a good base for a couple of days sightseeing in the city and the Tamar Valley. On day 21, drive west to Scottsdale and spend a night or two on the East Coast at St Helens. This coast abounds with attractions as you drive south. We suggest spending three days travelling to the Port Arthur Historic Site. On the way back to Hobart on day 30, don’t miss historic Richmond. As a finale to one of the world’s finest tours, drive to the top of Mt Wellington.
